EOW arrests man for Rs 2.02 crore loan fraud
Bhubaneswar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch on Tuesday arrested a 43-year-old man for fraudulently availing loan to the tune of Rs 2.02 crore.
The accused was identified as Bijaya Kumar Pradhan of Bagha Ragodi village under Konark police limits in Puri district.
According to the EOW, the accused along with his close relatives availed the loan from Odisha Gramya Bank for purchasing two vehicles by submitting forged and fabricated documents.
A case registered against him on the basis of the complaint of Debadutta Nanda, regional manager of Odisha Gramya Bank.
The investigation revealed that accused Bijaya along with his brother Bikram, sister-in-law Rajalaxmi, and her brother Madan Mohan Pradhan entered into a criminal conspiracy with the Branch Manager, Prasanna Kumar Jena to defraud the bank.
While availing the loans they had submitted forged documents such as RC book & insurance papers and misappropriated the loan amount without purchasing the vehicles.
Earlier, the former Branch Manager of Odisha Gramya Bank, Rasulgarh Branch, Prasanna Jena, Bikram, his wife Rajalaxmi and Madan Mohan Pradhan were arrested on November 10, 2018.
Bijaya has been arrested today and forwarded to SDJM court, Bhubaneswar. Further investigation into the case is in progress, the EOW said.
