Engg student’s suicide: Govt issues notice to pvt college


Bhubaneswar: The skill development and technical education department of the state government on Thursday sought a report from CV Raman College of Engineering over the suicide of a girl student over alleged access collection of fees.

Ankita Jena, a second-year girl student of CV Raman College of Engineering, Bhubaneswar, committed suicide in the college hostel earlier this month.

In a letter to the college principal, deputy secretary to the skill development and technical education department, Sangram Kumar Raysardar sought a factual report from the college principal on the allegation of collection of excess fees and suicide of the girl student.

According to sources, the notice was served after Biplab Prakash Mohanty, Convenor of All Odisha Technical And Professional Educational Students Association (AOTAPESA) had alleged that the girl student committed suicide allegedly due to collection of excess fees by the institution.

Notably, Ankita’s body was found inside her hostel room at around 12.30am on October 5.
