Elephants wreck havoc in Angul villages


Angul: In yet another incident of human-animal conflict, two elephant herds strayed into the two villages of Talcher in Angul district and damaged standing crops in acres of agricultural fields.

Sources said, around 22 wild tuskers entered the TTPS ash pond while six elephants ventured into Kankili village area and destroyed the agricultural fields causing a huge loss to the villagers.

The locals alleged that the herds of pachyderms have wrecked havoc in the area and has caused extensive damage to their paddy fields.

When informed, forest officials reached the spot and took stock of the situation.

Reportedly, forest department officials have launched an operation in both the areas in order to drive away the tuskers into the wild.
