Cuttack: While heatwave prevailed across the state, a few elephants were spotted cooling off in a dam near Narsinghapur of Cuttack district today.
According to sources, the small herd comprising baby elephants rolled around in the dam to beat the heat. Locals thronged the spot to watch the wild animals displaying their joyful nature. However, the alert locals informed the forest officials to keep watch on their movement.
Forest officials are closely monitoring the movement of the pachyderms in order to avoid any instance of human-animal conflict, sources said.
The extreme temperatures and dry conditions have taken the toll on the wildlife species, especially the elephants. Elephants require several litres of water each day to survive, forest officials said.
