Elephant Tusk Seized In Bolangir, One Held


Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Crime Branch on Wednesday seized one elephant tusk near Gudvela village under Tusura Police Station in Bolangir district and arrested one person in connection with the case.

Actin on reliable information regarding illegal possession of elephant tusk by wildlife criminals, the STF team along with Deogoan Territorial Forest Range officials had conducted a raid near Gudvela village. During the raid, the officials seized one elephant tusk and other incriminating materials from the possession of the accused, Bipul Bag.

The accused person could not produce any valid authority in support of the possession of such elephant tusk, for which he was detained and handed over to Bolangir forest officials for necessary legal action at their end.

Since 2020, the STF has launched a special drive against wildlife criminals/poachers and has seized as many as 21 leopard skins, 12 elephant tusks, two deer skins, eight live pangolins, and 15 kg pangolin scales and arrested 48 wildlife criminals.
