Elephant herd strays into Mayurbhanj villages again
Mayurbhanj: A huge wild elephant herd strayed into the villages near Karanjia forest division in Mayurbhanj district and went on a rampage.
According to reports, the elephant herd consisting of 22 pachyderms entered the villages under Sudhiani forest range and pulled down the walls of several houses.
The same herd ate away rice grains, corn and paddy stored in the houses before leaving.
Sources said the elephant herd had been straying into the human settlement from the nearby forest frequently. Resentment sparked following the incident as the panicked villagers feared more loss.
The forest officials said the situation is being monitored and that the herd, that is frequently venturing into human habitat, has been driven away into the forest, sources said.
