Elephant dies of electrocution in Dhenkanal


Dhenkanal/Bonai: An elephant died after coming in contact with live electric wires in Dudurkot forest under Hindol range in Dhenkanal district.

The matter came to light after some locals spotted the tusker lying on the ground and informed the forest department officials.

It is suspected that the elephant came in contact with the wire laid by poachers to trap wild boar. However, the actual cause behind the death will be ascertained after the post-mortem.

No officials from the forest department have reached the forest till the last report came in.

In a related incident, an elephant herd went on rampage in Ghusuriposa and Kadampur area under Tamada forest range in Bonai, causing massive damage to standing crops in several acres of farmland.

On being informed, forest department officials reached the area to drive away the herd into the wild.
