Elephant Deaths: Sambalpur Forest Ranger Suspended For Negligence Of Duty

Sambalpur: Sadar forest ranger Gouri Shankar Dash has been placed under suspension for negligence in protection of elephants during his tenure that resulted in the death of six jumbos in the district.

Sambalpur DFO Sanjeet Kumar said that the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) had initiated departmental proceedings against Dash on February 6.

Based on the reports of elephants’ deaths in the previous years, the government suspended him from the services, he added.

Worth mentioning, six elephants had died between January, 2019 and January 2021, stated Sambalpur DFO.
