Deogarh: The carcass of a female elephant has been recovered from Deogarh Forest Range near Loimura section in the district on Thursday.
According to sources, locals found the jumbo’s body this morning and informed the forest department officials who reached the spot and started a probe into the incident.
Though the actual reason behind the pachyderm’s death is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that the elephant might have died due to electrocution, said a forest official.
Earlier on September 27, a headless elephant carcass was found near Prabhasuni Reserve Forest range in Tileibani in Deogarh district. It was suspected that the tusker was killed by poachers to steal its tusks.
Later, two forest department officials posted at Prabhasuni reserve forest were suspended on allegations of dereliction of duty.
