Angul: An elderly man was trampled to death by an elephant at Palalahada-Khamar range of Angul district late last night.
The deceased has been identified as Pitambar Samal.
According to reports, Samal was attacked by an elephant and sustained grievous injuries. He was then rushed to Khamar Community Health Centre where doctors declared him dead.
On being alerted, forest department officials reached the spot and launched a probe into the matter.
Following the incident, the family members of the deceased and the locals have demanded compensation and protection against the wild jumbos.
