ECoR carried 5000 tonne essential commodities in parcel express trains during lockdown period in May
Bhubaneswar: Despite the lockdown and coronavirus outbreak, the Ministry of Railways has ensured an uninterrupted supply of essential commodities throughout the country.
In essential commodities, Indian Railways carried food grains, fruits & vegetables, milk products, edible oil, sugar & salt, medical equipment & medicine, PPE Kits and other grocery items, etc., apart from petroleum products, coal, etc.
Keeping in view the importance of food grains, and daily usable essential items; East Coast Railway has taken it as a challenge and ensured continuous supply towards different destinations. During May, 2020; from 1st to 30th May, 2020; East Coast Railway has carried 5413 tonne of Parcel through Parcel Express Trains and earned about Rupees 2 Crore and 18 lakh.
In April, 2020; ECoR carried 789 tonne of parcel from its jurisdiction towards various parts of the country and earned about Rupees 29 lakhs only. Apart from this, East Coast Railway has received one lakh 88 thousand packets of parcel weighing about 3374 tonne during the month of May, 2020.
These apart, essential commodities like coal, fertilizer and petroleum products have also been transported to various destinations of the country from its jurisdiction. The unsung warriors of East Coast Railway like Loco-Pilots, Asst. Loco-Pilots, Guards, Station Managers, Goods Clerks including staff from safety categories like Signaling, electrical, Mechanical, Engineering, Security are working hard round the clock ensuring supply of essential commodities to the people in different parts of the country. Steps have been taken for safety of these warriors like awareness campaign to maintain social distancing, distribution of face masks, sanitizers, and PPEs (where ever necessary) to the staff involved in direct public dealing.
