EC seeks response from Doordarshan on NaMo TV

New Delhi: The Election Commission has written to Doordarshan asking it to respond on live broadcast of Prime Minister’s address ‘Main bhi chowkidaar’ on March 31.

This was in response to the allegations by the Congress and AAP which raised the matter with the poll body asking  it why such a channel was launched after the model code of conduct came into force.

In a letter, AAP president Arvind Kejriwal said the channel went against the principle of creating a level playing field for all parties.

The letter addressed to the Chief Election Commissioner by the AAP’s legal cell said this act has defied the cardinal principle of the polls.

The letter said :”Who will monitor the contents of the telecast. Did BJP approach the Media Certification Committee established to certify the contents of the telecast and the cost?”

It wondered why show cause notice was not issued in the matter.”If no permission sought by EC then what action has been taken in this regard?” it asked.

The Congress has also written to the Election Commission and said NaMo TV was dedicated “solely to the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and BJP for promoting their interest.

It alleged that  this channel is devoted to advertising the achievements of the government, personal achievements of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi,  and airing political rallies of Prime Minister and broadcasting interviews of prominent BJP leaders.
