Colombo: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Sri Lankan president and conveyed PM Narendra Modi’s message of partnership for peace, prosperity and security.
Jaishankar made an unannounced visit to Sri Lanka on Tuesday. The visit has come just a day after Gotabaya Rajapaksa was sworn the new President of the country.
Worthwhile to mention that Jaishankar had spent time in the island nation in the 1990s in the capacity of first secretary and political adviser to the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF).
Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the former wartime defence secretary and younger brother of former president Mahinda Rajapaksa, was elected as the new president of Sri Lanka earlier on Sunday.
