Cuttack: Despite strict enforcement of new traffic laws, some citizens are yet to be cautious and knowingly put themselves into trouble. Such an incident have been reported from Cuttack district where Chauliaganj police arrested a man from near Nuabazar area here on charges of riding a bike under the influence of alcohol.
According to sources, police intercepted one Rakesh Panda of Matgajpur in Jagatsinghapur district during vehicle checking at Nuabazar and arrested him after a breath analyser test report revealed that he was under the influence of alcohol measuring 45 mg of 100 mg breath.
Panda was arrested and was prosecuted under FIR no 21/19 u/s 185/202 of Motor Vehicles (MV) Act. Besides, Panda did not even possess a driving license following which he was prosecuted under section 185/202 of MV Act.
Police have also seized his two-wheeler and he will be sent to court. This is reportedly the first case in which a drunk driver has been arrested and sent to court.
Earlier on Friday, Director General of Odisha Police (DGP) BK Sharma has directed all the Superintendents of Police to launch a new drive to put a check on drunken driving across Odisha.
