Double murder in Bhubaneswar: DNA test to ascertain man’s identity

Bhubaneswar: Mancheswar police are investigating a double murder case involving the killing of a woman and her husband at Palasuni Gangua slum last month.

Police sources said Sanatana Jena (40) and his wife Sanjulata Dehury (35) were staying at Palasuni slum area. On June 15, Sanatana had attacked Sanjulata with a sharp weapon and injured her severely. A family feud had led to the gruesome attack.

Sanjulata was immediately rushed to the Capital hospital with the help of neighbours but later shifted to AIIMS as her condition deteriorated. She, however, succumbed to injuries at AIIMS late on Friday evening.

The Mancheswar police had earlier registered a case on the matter on the basis of the complaint of Sanjulata’s brother. In the meanwhile, the post-mortem has been conducted and the body has been handed over to the family.

On June 25, police seized a decomposed body from Gangua nullah behind Satya Vihar. The body bore several injury marks.

Local people told the police that the body resembles that of Sanatana who was missing for some days. But, the police have not taken the version of locals to be correct. Police said the probe is on to ascertain if the body was that of Sanatana. They said the matter can be clinched after getting the post-mortem report.

ACP Anil Mishra said the DNA test of the family will also be conducted to ascertain if the decomposed body was that of Sanatana, the husband of Sanjulata.
