Jharusguda: Former Odisha MLA Anup Sai, main accused in the sensational murder of his paramour Kalpana Das and her 14-year-old daughter Babli, was produced at the District and Sessions Court at Raigarh in Chhattisgarh on Tuesday.
Raigarh Police produced Sai and his driver Burdhan Toppo at the court seeking a 7-day remand for further interrogation in the double-murder case. However, the hearing was deferred to tomorrow.
The former MLA of Brajrajnagar, Anup Sai was found to be involved in the brutal of the mother-daughter duo in April 2016. He beat them to death with an iron rod and then mowed down their bodies with the help of his driver.
The mutilated bodies were found near Sakambari plant on Hamirpur Marg near Raigarh on May 7. Following this, Chhattisgarh Police launched a probe and interrogated over 700 persons, conducted DNA tests and apprehended Sai after four years.
Besides, a team of Raigarh Police has arrived in Bhubaneswar to probe further into the activities of Sai while he was living with Kalpana Das and her minor daughter.
On the other hand, notices have been served to the family members of Sai as well as the deceased woman to appear in person before the Raigarh Police. Sai’s relatives have also been directed to produce the two vehicles (Bolero and Innova) allegedly used to run over the bodies of the mother-daughter duo, in order to destroy their identities and mislead the investigation by staging it as a road mishap.
