Washington DC: US President Donald Trump has backtracked from quarantining New York even as the tally of coronavirus infections rose over 52,000.
Trump is believed to have abandon the idea as he announced on Twitter that “A quarantine will not be necessary”.
The President abandoned the proposal after NY Governor Andrew Cuomo compared the President’s suggestion of quarantining the state and neighbouring region to “a declaration of war on states”.
Trump said that he would instead issue a “strong travel advisory” to combat coronavirus. The governor said quarantining the whole of New York will paralyze the financial sector.
Meanwhile ,the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a formal advisory urging residents of the three states to “refrain from non-essential domestic travel for 14 days effective immediately.”
