Dignitaries Across Nation Pay Tribute To Ex-FM Arun Jaitley

Bhubaneswar: Tributes poured in from across the country for former finance minister Arun Jaitley who passed away today at the age of 66. The senior BJP leader breathed his last at AIIMS, New Delhi where he was undergoing treatment for several weeks.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is currently in UAE, remembered Jaitley as his valued friend. Modi said Jaitley and BJP shared an unbreakable bond.

Condoling the death of Arun Jaitley, President Ram Nath Kovind said he was extremely saddened.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said Jaitley’s death was a personal loss for him.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who cut short his Lucknow visit, described Arun Jaitley as an asset to the nation and the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Nitin Gadkari said Arun Jaitley will be remembered by the country for years to come.

Trinamool Congress leader Derek O’Brien remembered Arun Jaitley as his mentor.

Union minister Smriti Irani condoled the death of former Finance Minister calling him a stalwart who served the nation and his ‘sangathan’ (organisation) with “dedication and zeal”.

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor remembered the veteran BJP leader and said, “Deeply saddened by the tragic passing of my friend and Delhi University senior Arun Jaitley.”

Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal condoled the demise of Arun Jaitley calling the former minister as an old friend and a dear colleague.

Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman paid rich tributes to Union minister Arun Jaitley, describing him as a mentor with matchless astuteness.

Several Bollywood personalities also expressed grief and paid tribute to former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

Shatrughan Sinha tweeted that Jaitley’s absence will be truly missed.

Karan Johar too mourned the loss of the former finance minister.

Parineeti Chopra said the country has lost a “visionary and respectable leader”.

Raveena Tandon tweeted that she was shocked and saddened to hear of the passing away of Arun Jaitley and prayed for strength to his family for bearing such an irreplaceable loss.

Veteran Bollywood playback singer Lata Mangeshkar expressed condolences by calling Jaitley, a dynamic leader, a thorough gentleman.

Actor Anil Kapoor tweeted that Arun Jaitley’s demise is a huge loss for our nation.

Writer Chetan Bhagat expressed sadness over the demise of former Union finance minister and said, “May your soul rest in peace. So many wonderful memories of someone who listened well spoke well and worked tirelessly.”

The sports fraternity came in unison to condole the demise of former finance minister Arun Jaitley.

Taking to his official Twitter handle, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag said that under the leadership of Jaitley at the Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA), many players including him got a chance to represent India

Expressing his grief at the death of Jaitley, Indian opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan tweeted,”RIP #ArunJaitley Ji.. My sincere condolences to your family and loved ones.”

Indian grappler Geeta Phogat also expressed her sadness on the untimely demise of former Union Minister Jaitley.

As per officials sources, Arun Jaitley’s mortal remains will be kept at BJP headquarters on Sunday morning for people to pay their last respects. The final rites will be performed at Nigambodh Ghat later in the afternoon.
