Bhubaneswar: Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has urged Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to earmark reservation of OBCs and SEBCs in jobs and education.
Pradhan wrote to Odisha CM that he was aware of the fact that the Odisha government has recently approved a proposal for enacting reservations for Government School students in medical and engineering colleges of the state.
The Union Minister reminded Patnaik it was his long-standing request for providing reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in the field of public employment and educational institutions and for Socio-Economic Backward Classes (SEBCs) in educational institutions.
Worthwhile to mention that the Union Minister had earlier written twice to the CM expressing his happiness that the state government had constituted State Commission for Backward Classes on February 12, 2020.
The Union Minister in his letter said that the report of the commission is yet to be submitted and his request of reservations for OBCs is yet to be implemented.
The letter said the OBCs and SEBCs form a large chunk of the total population the state who are deprived of opportunities in the field of education and employment.
Pradhan said that inordinate delay by Odisha government in taking affirmative action for OBCs and SEBCs is a glaring disservice to the majority of the population who are socio-economically deprived of.
