Konark: Thousands of devotees thronged Konark to take a holy dip at Chandrabhaga sea near Konark on the occasion of Magha Saptami today.

According to mythology, Samba, the son of Lord Krishna, was cured of leprosy by offering prayer to the Sun God at the Chandrabhaga beach. With this belief, the devotees take a holy dip on the seventh day of the new moon of the Odia month ‘Magha’ and perform rituals at the beach to rid them of the skin diseases.

Magha Saptami is a highly auspicious day observed on the seventh day (Saptami Tithi) of Magha, Shukla Paksha (brighter phase of the Lunar cycle). Both Sun God and Lord Shiva are worshipped during the ‘Magha Mela’ which is held at Konark on this day also.

In view of the occasion, the district administration had made all arrangements for smooth conduct of rituals.
