Bhubaneswar: Relief Commissioner Pravat Ranjan Mohapatra said farmers have been advised to shift crops to safer places as six districts of Odisha will experience heavy rain.
Met office said the deep depression in the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify further into a cyclonic storm in the next 12 hours.
This system will be converted into a severe cyclonic storm in subsequent 24 hours, according to a bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday.
The bulletin said the system is likely to move north-northwestwards and cross Andhra Pradesh coast between Ongole and Kakinada on December 17.
Under the impact several parts of Odisha will receive rainfall from December 16. These districts will experience thunderstorms at one or two places.
The report said the rainfall activity will mostly be over the districts in interior Odisha and a few places in the coastal areas.
According to Regional Meteorological Centre Director, Bhubaneswar, HR Biswas several districts of Odisha including Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput will receive heavy to very heavy rainfall.
