Demand for HC bench: Lawyers gherao Judge in Sambalpur
Sambalpur: Tension erupted in Sambalpur as scores of agitating lawyers of the district gheraoed the Sambalpur District and Sessions Judge following the ongoing agitation over the demand for the establishment of a permanent bench of the Orissa High Court (HC) in the western part of the state.
Reportedly, the irate lawyers who had been on a strike since last two months stopped the Sambalpur District Judge Malaya Ranjan Dash near Court Chhak while he was on his way to the court today.
The lawyers also asked the Judge about the decision of the Chief Justice of the High Court regarding the establishment of the permanent HC bench. The agitators also apprised the Judge about the inconvenience being faced by the people due to the cease-work strike.
The agitating lawyers requested the Judge to apprise the state government about the same.
Owing to the protest the District and Sessions Judge was unable to attend the court today.
