Delhi: Know About ‘Mosquito Terminator on Wheels’, An Initiative By Indian Railways
New Delhi: After much prodding by the Delhi HC, the anti-mosquito breeding fight in the capital got a big weapon.
A special train, ‘Mosquito Terminator On Wheels’ has once again been pressed into action jointly by Northern Railway and North MCD to prevent mosquito breeding along the railway tracks in Delhi.
The special train is brought out around this time annually, when the breeding season is at its peak.
A truck-mounted sprayer provided by the SDMC is loaded on to a wagon called DBKM. As the train moves, it sprays.
This kills mosquitoes as well as larvae.
The special wagon sanitized areas upto a distance of 50-60 meters along the tracks on Ring Railway, Rathdana, Adarsh Nagar and Badli and returned to New Delhi.
It will cover other areas of NCR region in subsequent days till October 1, 2021. As per plans, the drive to destroy mosquito breeding sites will be conducted for nearly 10 times in the next five weeks this season.“During Corona pandemic period this will reduce the menace of mosquito larvae breeding and spread of mosquito menace. All precautions including social distancing were taken during the corona pandemic by the staff on duty,” tweeted Indian Railways.
Railway is also collaborating with SDMC, EDMC and NDMC to take requisite measures to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes in railway colonies and Railway land. Besides, Railway is also ensuring the cleanliness of overhead tanks and replacement of missing/damaged lids of water tanks.
