Delhi govt extends lockdown by a week amid coronavirus surge

New Delhi: The Delhi government on Saturday extended the lockdown in the national capital for another week as the second Corona wave is not ebbing.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted that the lockdown in Delhi is being extended by one week in view of an exponential rise in COVID-19 cases. Earlier, the Delhi government had on April 19 announced a six-day lockdown in the national capital.

Delhi is struggling to contain a steep spike in the number of COVID-19 cases with several hospitals in the city reeling under a shortage of medical oxygen and beds.

The Delhi High Court has directed the Centre to supply 490 metric tonnes of allocated oxygen to the national capital on Saturday itself or face contempt.
