Defence Pension: Gen Bipin Rawat favours increase in retirement age

New Delhi: The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat on Sunday suggested increasing the age of retirement of defence personnel to manage pension.

General Rawat said this would help in managing the issue of rising pension budget of the country. Schemes like ‘Make in India’ for the defence industry will reduce the cost of acquisition of weapons, he added.

Gen Rawat told news agencies that priorities will be given for acquisitions and other requirements. The CDS was commenting on the defence budget, which has been hiked by 6 per cent making it Rs 3.37 lakh crore.
