Death toll rises to 11 in Andhra bus accident; Many Odia passengers were onboard


Bhubaneswar: The death toll in the Andhra accident of a bus travelling from Bhubaneswar to Hyderabad has risen to 11. Initially, eight were reported dead on the spot when the bus ‘Diwakar’ lost balance and fell off an overbridge into a canal in Mullapudu near Vijaywada. Three more were confirmed dead later.

While over 40 have been reportedly injured in the accident that took place at 5.30 am in Penuganchiprolu in Krishna district on Tuesday, many Odia passengers onboard are also injured as per sources. Rescue operations were done by police and the injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals.

State transport minister Ramesh Majhi said the priority at this moment is to see that the injured get good and free treatment. “We are in touch with the Krishna district authorities and police and Andhra Pradesh government. We do not even have the details about Odia passengers who were onboard and how many of them have been injured. Odisha government has requested for these details,” said Majhi.
