Bhubaneswar: Security forces in the state are put on high alert after Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik received a death threat two days ago.

Contract killers armed with AK-47 and semi-automatic pistols are out to kill the Odisha CM, an anonymous letter posted to CM’s residential office said.

The handwritten letter in English said:  “These contract killers are professional criminals and can attack you any time. So please be aware that these contract killers are continuously following you. The mastermind lives in Nagpur. The weapons which will be used to kill you have been brought to Odisha”.

The letter mentioned the registration numbers of 17 cars which according to the sender were used to follow the Chief Minister. It further said that two cars bearing Odisha registration number will be used for the act.

The Home department has alerted the Odisha DGP as well as the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissioner for taking necessary action to thwart the attack.

The CM’s security at home, office and during journey, are being reviewed, sources said.
