Cuttack: As many as six members of a dacoity gang were caught by Mangalabag police late on Wednesday night and five illegal firearms including 30 ammunition were seized from them.
The accused were identified as Biswajit Das (32), Sanjay Samal (30), Butu Naik (35), Prasant Barik (41), Rajesh Khatua (35), and Subhadarshan Dash (24).
Acting on a tip-off, a police team raided Hadia Patha near the bank of river Mahanadi and nabbed the accused persons while they were hatching a plan to commit a dacoity in the locality.
According to police, the gang was involved in series of burglary, robbery, and dacoity cases in Kendrapada, Jajpur, Balasore, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, Ganjam, and Berhampur area.
Police sources said that a special team under the guidance of ACP Special Squad and IIC Mangalabag are conducting an investigation to bust the criminal gang.
