Cyclone Tauktae: 5 NDRF Teams From Odisha Leave For Gujarat

Bhubaneswar: At least five NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) teams from Odisha have left for Gujarat in view of the approaching cyclone ‘Tauktae’.

There are 125 personnel in each team who will join the rescue activities in Rajkot in Gujarat.

Cyclone ‘Tauktae’, according to an IMD report on early Saturday, is very likely to intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm by 5.30 pm today and very severe cyclonic storm by 11.30 am tomorrow.

The Met department has predicted that it might hit the Gujarat coast by Tuesday morning.

According to reports, more than 50 teams of the NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) have been kept ready for rescue and relief operations in sensitive States- Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Maharashtra which may bear the brunt of the cyclone.

While red and orange alerts have been sounded in various parts of Gujarat, fishermen have been asked to avoid venturing into Arabian Sea till Tuesday as the sea condition will remain very rough during the time.

NDRF Director General S N Pradhan had yesterday informed that 53 teams have been committed to tackle any after-effects of the cyclonic storm. The teams are being deployed in the coastal regions of Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Maharashtra.

Out of the 53 teams, 24 have been pre-deployed or stationed on the ground while the rest are on stand-by.
