Bhubaneswar: Responding to the IMD forecast, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) had preparatory beforehand. Despite 86 mm rainfall in the last 33 hours i.e. 8.30 AM(19-05-20)to 5 PM (20 -05-20) in Bhubaneswar round the clock rapid response by team BMC has become fruitful.
As per the identified 26 vulnerable points across the city, 6 teams were alert and they had their monitoring visit to their destinations. Excavators, tippers, and tractors were positioned in each zone for any emergency need along with the sanitation workers of different agencies.
Each zone having two teams monitored their respective points and took steps like the engagement of dewatering pumps, cleaning of roads due to falling of tree on roadside, cleaning of drains having vulnerability, and diversion of rainwater to prevent waterlogging.
Pumps were engaged in Mayfair Jyostna Apartment, Pabitra Guest House, Nayapalli Beherasahi, Laxmi Sagar, Malianta Tank, Satabdi Nagar, Mallick complex, Paika Nagar, sab Industry, Garage Chhak Daya west canal, and Gouri Garden area. A total number of 12 pumps were engaged in these areas out of which 6 fire pumps and 6 BMC positioned pumps.
Pertinent to mention that although there is an alert and continuous rainfall due to Amphan from 19th to 20th but Amphan it has not blocked Acharya Vihar Area this time. Due care taken this time has saved the area for which RWAs of Acharya Vihar have thanked BMC authority. Same in case of the Gouri Garden area.
