Cyclone Amphan: President Kovind expresses concern over destruction in Odisha, West Bengal


Bhubaneswar: President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, on Friday expressed concern over the well-being of people of Odisha following destruction by Cyclone Amphan.

President Kovind spoke to Odisha Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and assured them that in this hour of crisis the nation stands united in supporting the affected people in every possible way.

He prayed Odisha will emerge stronger from this crisis at the earliest.



The President tweeted that he talked to Governor of West Bengal, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, to enquire about the situation.

He said he is deeply pained by reports of loss of life and property caused by Cyclone Amphan in West Bengal and Odisha. The President said the situation is precarious when these states as well as the rest of the country are fighting coronavirus pandemic.

The severe cyclonic storm made its landfall near Sunderbans in West Bengal on Wednesday leaving a trail of disaster.
