Cyber crime: WhatsApp group admin held for sending obscene videos

Bhubaneswar: The Cyber Cell of the Commissionerate Police today arrested an administrator of a WhatsApp group from Haryana on charges of circulating objectionable videos on the popular messaging app.

The accused, identified as Pawan Agarwal, hails from Jatni in Khurda district.

According to police, the accused had created a WhatsApp group and added several persons as members of the group against whom he harboured grudges. He used to send obscene videos to the group members to settle personal scores with them and malign their image.

It is worth mentioning here that earlier three administrators of a WhatsApp group were arrested from Chhendipada village in Angul district for allegedly circulating a video clip containing the intimate moment of a married woman.

According to sources, some local youths of Chhendipada had created the WhatsApp group named ‘Kanaloi Local Toka’ and circulated the obscene video among the members.

One administrator of the group first posted the video in the group which was later circulated by other group administrators and members.

The woman featured in the video was a native of Angul district. Although she is married, she was seen with another man in the intimate video.

The police suspected that the video was recorded clandestinely while the duo was in a relationship and the man circulated it after the woman married someone else.
