Barang: The kingpin of an inter-state looter gang was nabbed after an encounter with police near Naraj Anicut Chhak in Cuttack on Wednesday.
The criminal has been identified as Sachin Pawar alias Babul.
According to sources, receiving reliable information about the location of Babul and his associates, a joint team of Special Squad of the Commissionerate Police and Choudwar Police raided a house at around 4.30 am today.
Cops interrupted the notorious gang while they were hatching a loot plan in Krushak Bazar area.
In a bid to escape, the looters opened fire at the cops to which the police officials retaliated. While two aides of Babul managed to flee the spot, the Kingpin sustained bullet injuries on his right leg during exchange of fire.
Following this, Babul was apprehended and a gun and bullets have been seized from his possession.
As per police reports, several criminal cases are pending against Babul, sources said.
Reportedly, the gang was involved in organised crime and posed themselves as Police in order to loot a place. They were specifically active in Puri, Rourkela, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Talcher, Angul, Baripda and Berhampur cities of Odisha state.
