Cuttack Congress Workers Gherao CMC Office; Demand To Improve Civic Amenities

Cuttack: Congress workers in Cuttack City staged a protest in front of the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) office on Monday demanding immediate action into various sanitisation issues of the Silver City.

Opposing the civic body’s ineffectiveness in maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in Cuttack, scores of Congress workers gheraoed the CMC office and raised slogans against the authorities.

They alleged that due to the negligent attitude of CMC authorities, denizens are not even getting basic civic amenities like safe drinking water, a hygienic environment, and other health-related facilities.

In a press release, Cuttack district Congress president, Giribala Behera said,”Roads across the city are in deplorable condition while sanitation of the city is in complete shambles. Even sweeping of the streets is not being carried out properly and the city has turned a hub of flies and mosquitoes.”

“Waterlogging and poor sanitation remains a major cause of concern for residents of the city. The problem becomes acute during monsoon when the roads in these localities get waterlogged. CMC’s sanitary workers seldom visit the localities where improper sanitation and growth of vegetation provides an ideal breeding ground for mosquitoes,” she said.

Congress has also threatened to intensify its protest if the civic body fails to improve things immediately.

“If adequate measures are not taken to make the city clean, we will intensify our protest, and CMC authorities will have to pay its price,” said Behera.
