Cuttack: Odisha government’s decision for a cap on the height of idols in the upcoming festive season has created a massive oppose from the opposition parties.
Meanwhile, workers of the Cuttack Congress Committee led by Barabati MLA, Mohammed Moquim staged a silent protest near the Purighat Gandhi statue at Purighat on Wednesday.
Congress slammed BJD for their double-standard on the guidelines and demanded the government to alter its decision on various restrictions imposed on Duga Puja.
Speaking to media persons in this regard, Moquim said,” Durga Puja has a special place in the historical city of Cuttack. All the people of Cuttack have an emotional bonding with Durga Puja. The government should respect the feelings and lift unnecessary restrictions. People should be allowed to participate in the Puja freely amid Covid restrictions.”
“Cap On Idols’ Height To Remain heats of Odisha politics and many leaders of ruling BJD have a difference of opinions on the imposed guidelines during Puja. While they are criticising each other on this matter, the top leader of the party seems to be in the oblivion of the situation. A clear picture should come out soon and people should be allowed to celebrate the festival amid Covid guidelines,” he said.
A controversy erupted here regarding the celebration of Puja which led to protests and agitations on the height of the statue and the rituals.
Earlier, former BJD MLA Debashish Samantaray today lambasted the senior party leader and Cuttack MP Bhartruhari Mahtab for not supporting the state government’s decision to cap the height of the idol of Goddess Durga.
