Balasore: After five days of curfew in the Balasore municipal area normalcy is slowly returning to the district. Keeping an eye on the current situation, the District administration on Friday ordered to revoke curfew from areas under the jurisdiction of the Industrial Area Police Station (PS) after 21 June midnight.
However, District Magistrate Ashish Thackeray informed the media that the curfew has been extended in areas under Sahadevkhunta PS and Town PS till 22 June midnight with relaxation from 5 am to 2 pm. During this period all commercial establishments and routine services are allowed to operate.
Considering the current situation, Anganwadis, schools, colleges and all educational institutions will remain closed till tomorrow in Balasore. Discussions are ongoing with various prominent persons to establish peace in the city.
Internet services are provided to banks and other institutions through leased lines. Landline-based internet service will be provided from tomorrow, said the Magistrate.
A lot of rumours are being heard during the curfew. The District Collector requested the public not to believe any rumours. Keeping the rumours in mind he said that there would be some delay in the restoration of the mobile net service.
He thanked the media for their cooperation during the curfew and requested for continued cooperation in the coming days. Balasore Deputy District Collector Prathamesh Arvind Rajeshirke was present along with the District Collector during the media interaction.
Notably, following a group clash, the administration imposed a curfew in the entire Balasore Municipality area from 18 June for an indefinite period to bring the situation under control. As of today, a total of 65 people have been arrested in the clash.
