The district administration of Balasore has imposed a curfew to facilitate an anti-encroachment drive aimed at clearing unauthorized structures obstructing the construction of a third railway line.
The curfew, which began at 4 AM today, will remain in effect until 10 PM tomorrow, impacting areas such as Arad Bazaar, Pariba Market, Haripur, Darji Pokhari Chhak, Kasimila Bridge, Fuladi Chhak, and Nuabazaar Railway Gate.
The eviction drive is part of a larger project to enhance railway connectivity and reduce traffic congestion by constructing a third railway line from Narayangarh in West Bengal to Bhadrak in Odisha. The district administration has issued eviction notices well in advance and has taken precautionary measures to maintain law and order during the operation.
Additional District Magistrate Sudhakar Nayak emphasized the importance of the project, describing it as one of national significance. He assured that the administration is committed to ensuring a smooth and orderly eviction process.
Residents in the affected areas have been advised to cooperate with the authorities and avoid gatherings, meetings, and processions during the curfew period. The administration has also planned strict measures to clear encroachments in Jadupur, Aktiarpur, and Bhaskarganj mouzas of Balasore.
The eviction drive has sparked mixed reactions among the local population, with some expressing support for the development project, while others are concerned about the displacement it may cause. The administration has promised to address grievances and provide necessary support to those affected.
