Koraput: The Central University of Odisha organized a Workshop on ‘Sustainable Development and Public Policy: Recent Trends’ at its Main Campus at Sunabeda. Dr. Charudutta Panigrahi, Founder and Chairman, FIDR, Gurugram, Haryana was the Chief Guest of the occasion.
The programme was inaugurated by Prof I. Ramabrahmam, Vice Chancellor, CUO in the presence of Prof Sharat Kumar Palita, Dean, SBCNR, CUO, Prof. P. Durga Prasad, Visiting Professor, Dept. of Sociology, Prof. B. P. Barik, Visiting Professor, Dept. of Sociology, Prof. Bhagabat Patro, Visiting Professor and Mr. Prasanta Behera, Workshop Coordinator & Head I/C, Dept of Economics. Mr. Prasanta Behera introduced the objectives of the Workshop.
Prof I. Ramabrahmam, Vice Chancellor, CUO in his inaugural address emphasised on the active involvement of the students of CUO for the inclusive development of Society. He explained that Govt along with civil society has a greater role for sustainable development. He cited that Excessive exploitation of mining resources affect the livelihood. He expressed a hope that today’s workshop will pave way road map for the development of course curriculum for Sustainable Development and Public Policy in the CUO in the coming days.
Dr. Charudutta Panigrahi, Founder and Chairman, FIDR, Gurugram, Haryana delivered a special lecture on ‘Sustainable Development and Public Policy: Recent Trends’. In his deliberation, he explained that Sustainability is a practice and a way of life. He has highlighted various socio-political and legal aspects of sustainable development of the society and cited Case studies of tribal population of Niyamagiri hill. He was of the view that Field exposure is essential to understand the problems of Society towards making the Public policies effective.
Prof Sharat Kumar Palita, in his address, defined sustainable development and its goals and highlighted the social, environmental and economical challenges of the society. He also emphasised on the requirement of Environmental policy for Climate Change. Prof. P. Durga Prasad highlighted the role of institutions for delivering sustainable goals and CUO should develop a road map for conservation and sustainable utilization of Natural Resources. Prof. Bhagabat Patro emphasized the need for a balanced environment and development. Prof. B. P. Barik highlighted the importance of common property resources such as Air/ Water/ Earth.
The vote of thanks was presented by Nikita Patnaik, Dr. Debabrata Panda, Asst. Professor, Dept of BCNR was the Reporter of the Workshop. Nearly 100 Faculty members, Research Scholar and students participated in the Workshop.
