As per reports, the Flying Squad was conducting checks at the Laxmannath toll gate on the border of Balasore and West Bengal in the evening today as part of election security measures. A vehicle bearing the name, Sequel Logistics Transport (WB 19L 7772), en route to Odisha from West Bengal, was stopped for inspection by the Flying Squad. During the inspection, a significant amount of gold in more than 15 boxes came out. The vehicle’s occupants were unable to provide a satisfactory explanation when questioned by the Squad.
Due to the inconsistencies in the responses of the accused, the Flying Squad detained all the individuals and handed them over to the Jaleswar police station. The police seized both the vehicle and the gold. The seized gold is currently being weighed in the presence of a magistrate.
The CT & GST team is investigating the incident. However, it remains unclear about the reason and person behind the transportation of the gold from West Bengal to Odisha.
