Crocodile Census Begins At Bhitarkanika

Kendrapara: The forest department officials have began the annual census of crocodiles at Bhitarkanika National Park in Kendrapara district.

A 23-member team led by Dr Sudhakar Kar has been engaged in the counting process.

Notably, as many as 1,610 crocodiles were counted in 2010 census.

The number rose to 1,654 in 2011 but marginally decreased in 2012 as 1,646 crocodiles were sighted. Similarly, 1,649 crocodiles were counted in 2013, 1,644 in 2014, 1,665 in 2015, 1,671 in 2016, 1,682 in 2017 and 1,698 crocodiles in 2018.
