Pune: A large chunk of Covishield, manufactured by the Serum Institute, would be moved out of the city through flights from today, reports said.
Rahul Agarwal, co-founder of Mumbai-based Kool-Ex Cold Chain Ltd, said the vaccine would be first moved through flights. The Serum Institute, is however, yet to receive a green signal from the central government on the transportation of the vaccines.
Agarwal said the transportation must start by Tuesday or else the vaccine would not reach centres on time.
A senior officer from the city police said security cover to the vaccine-laden trucks will be provided as per instructions from the state government.
The transportation process had been delayed by two days, airline authorities and representatives from Serum had said on January 8. Media reports said as many as 20 million doses are all set to be rolled out during Phase I vaccination.
