Bhubaneswar: Director of Institute of Life Sciences, Dr. Ajay Parida said, in case of a newly-developed COVID-19 vaccine, it will be first tried on animal models like rats and hamsters before humans trials.
Dr. Parida said if the results on the new vaccine will be positive in lower animal models then a human trial of the vaccine could be undertaken.
Replying to a question asked by Chief Spokesperson on COVID-19, Subroto Bagchi, at Geeta Govinda Sadan here on Thursday, Dr. Parida said if a vaccine which is already used on humans is used against COVID-19, then it can be administered directly without going for the aforementioned process of a lower animal model.
Dr. Parida said only an animal model study can give us an idea about its implication both positive and negative. He said the COVID-19 vaccine can be used on humans after its contraindications and safety aspects are studied thoroughly.
