COVID-19 Second Wave Likely To Peak By May 1st Week: Odisha DMET


Bhubaneswar: Directorate of Medical Education & Training (DMET) CBK Mohanty on Wednesday said that The COVID positive cases in Odisha are expected to peak by the first week of May.

Alerting about the surge, Mohanty said the state government is ready to tackle the situation.

Talking to the media persons, Mohanty said, “The peak has already started in Maharashtra while Delhi and other states might see the climax by last week of April and in some states it will extend to May. In Odisha too, the peak might come between the end of April and first week of May. After that, the cases will decrease naturally at the same pace it is increasing now.”

The state has sufficient beds and ICUs available in hospitals. Of the 71 COVID hospitals in the state, 31 are currently functional. Only 26% of general beds, 14.18% of ICUs and 10 % of ventilators are currently occupied,” he informed.
