Couple murdered for ‘practicing witchcraft’ in Gajapati, 2 held

Gajapati: Two persons have been arrested on charges of killing a couple on the suspicion of practicing witchcraft near Gapatima village under Mohana police station limits of the Gajapati district.

The accused were identified as Santosh Mallick and Salman Mallick of this district. They have been forwarded to the court, the police said.

According to reports, accused Santosh suspected Putur Mallick and his wife of killing his uncle by practicing witchcraft while accused Salman had a land dispute with the couple and both were looking for a chance to eliminate them.

When Putur was alone at home, taking advantage of the situation, the accused persons threw chilly powder in his eyes and attacked him with sharp weapons. Meanwhile, Patu’s wife arrived at the spot and started screaming following which the accused killed her as well.

On being informed, police seized the bodies atop a nearby hill for post-mortem while registering a case. After an investigation, police managed to arrest two accused persons suspected to be involved in the brutal murder of the couple.
