Couple held at Jharsuguda rly station while smuggling ganja to New Delhi
Jharsuguda: The Government Railway Police (GRP) on Thursday evening seized around 16 kilograms of ganja from an express train and arrested a couple on charges of smuggling ganja to New Delhi.
The accused couple has been identified as Ankit Kumar Singh alias Ammanulla Siddique (27) and his wife Sonu (23).
According to police, the couple was smuggling ganja from Rajgangpur to New Delhi in the Utkal Express train.
Acting on reliable inputs about illegal transportation of ganja, the GRP sleuths conducted a security check at Jharsuguda railway station and found a briefcase stashed with cannabis from the couple.
The ganja weighing 16 kilograms has been seized and the accused couple are in police custody for further interrogation in the case.
Sources said that during initial interrogation the couple confessed that they had also smuggled the contraband out of the state in past.
A case has been registered against the accused persons under relevant Sections of the IPC and they will be forwarded to the court soon, the police said.
