Councillors from Port Blair, OAS probationers visit Bhubaneswar Operations Centre

Bhubaneswar: A team of 15 councillors from Port Blair Municipal Council (PBMC) led by their Chairperson Anusia Devi visited the Bhubaneswar Operations Centre inside the office of Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) to have a hands-on experience on the technological interventions done by BSCL for the Temple City.

The team, which has come to Odisha on a two-day visit to have first-hand knowledge on the progress of the various projects of Bhubaneswar Smart City, will advise the authorities of the Port Blair Smart City so that their project would also progress in a faster and smoother manner.

Regarding their exposure visit the Chairperson of PBMC said, “We reached Bhubaneswar Smart City and were delighted to see the progress of various projects under BSCL and the other convergence projects like sewerage treatment plant, Smart Janpath, Smart Traffic Signalling System, Bhubaneswar Operations Centre.”

“The underground cabling work across the city, social equity centre, multi-level car parking, integrated public service centre and Socially Smart Bhubaneswar Project were the interesting ones we came across and we will definitely tell our officials, planners and engineers of Port Blair Smart City on these things we have seen in Bhubaneswar,” she added.

A senior member of the councillor’s team K. Ganeshan, a councillor of Port Blair Municipal Council since 1982, said, “We are really happy to see the tremendous progress in the Smart City work here and we hope that our counterparts must emulate from BSCL’s progress.”

After Bhubaneswar, the team from Port Blair will go to Siliguri, Bhopal and Vellore to see the progress of the respective Smart Cities and learn lessons from them as well.

OAS Probationers

Forty probationers from Gopabandhu Academy of Administration visited the BSCL Office and Bhubaneswar Operations Centre and were given brief introduction on all on-going projects under the Bhubaneswar Smart City Proposal.

The probationers were told in details about the area-based development plan, infrastructure, technology interventions, pan-city IT-based projects and how the city will help people in having a smart living through use of technology and innovation. They were also told about social inclusiveness and child-friendly ideas of the Smart City Proposal, which are unique to Bhubaneswar as it was the best proposal during the Smart City Challenge among 100 cities. The probationers were also briefed about the Socially Smart Project, which aims in having a sea-change in the lives of 100 slum dwellers across the city.

BSCL General Manager (Administration) Saroj Kumar Swain, Technology Officer Asit Rajhans and consultants from various projects presented their briefs on the BSCL work progress.
