Corona-infected man dies before wife at Dhenkanal DHH, doctors remain mute spectators

Dhenkanal: In a heart-wrenching incident, a Corona-infected man died in front of his wife on the premises of Dhenkanal district headquarters hospital  (DHH) on Tuesday.

Neither doctors nor any staff of the hospital came to save his life as the man identified as Sushant Prusti (50) of Nadhara village was tested positive for COVID-19. His wife prayed for help to save the life of her husband but all remained mute spectators.

Sources said, Sushant had tested coronavirus positive, therefore none dared to touch him. This is not the solitary case here in the district headquarters hospital. Three such cases have occurred here which are bereft of human sympathy.

Prusti, who is an employee of the rural water supply wing in Angul, had come to the hospital for testing as he was suffering from cough and cold. After the antigen test, it was confirmed that he was infected by COVID-19.

As soon as the staff disclosed that he was infected with Corona, Prusti fainted and after a few minutes died due to lack of treatment despite several imploring by his wife.

It was alleged that CDMO has failed to streamline the health system in the district headquarters hospital as gross negligence in the treatment of patients has come to the notice time and again.

District Collector Bhumesh Chandra Behera has served a show-cause notice to Dhenkanal CDMO, Dr. Sujatarani Mishra, over the issue.
