Bhadrak: Police on Thursday stopped a bhajan programme dedicated to Sarathi Baba that was organised at a house in Matha Sahi under Town Police limits in Bhadrak.
According to sources, the event was held by one Prashant Barik at his house, where several devotees of Sarathi Baba were present. In the absence of Sarathi himself, Prashant had put up a photograph of the self-made godman in order to worship him.
The matter came to light after some locals informed the matter to the police.
Police stopped the programme in between and initiated a probe to the matter. Some of the residents have alleged that such activities are being carried in the house for the last few days.
Earlier on July 22, the Orissa High Court had granted bail to Sarathi and has imposed restrictions on his entry into his Barimula ashram. He was also directed not to influence the witnesses in the case and cooperate in the investigation process. Sarathi was also restricted to leave the State without the permission of the Kendrapara SJDM court and barred from holding any public meetings.
Notably, the controversial Godman was arrested by the Crime Branch on August 8 2015, from his Barimula Ashram in Kendrapada district on allegations of sexual and physical exploitation of women apart from defrauding devotees. At least three cases under Indian Penal Code-506, 420, 467, 468, 471, 321, 120 (b) and 34 were registered against him.
