Cops foil gang war, nab nine criminals in Keonjhar
Keonjhar: In a major crackdown on anti socials, Barbil police of Keonjhar district foiled a gang war by arresting nine dreaded criminals of two gangs and seized huge cache of arms and ammunition from them on Saturday.
The arrested were identified as MD Muzafar (30), Bikram Pradhan (29) of Jhumpura, while the members other gang were identified as Titu alias Sunil Patra (23), Kushal Kentha (28), Roshan Gupta (28), Muna patra (26), Shiba Patra (25), Yaspal Singh (27) and Uttacm Swain (26) all residents of Barbil.
Police also seized four bikes, a four-wheeler, nine mobile phones, live bombs, arms and ammunition from their possessions.
According to police, Muzaffar gang of Jhumpura and Titu gang of Barbil had rivalry. Yesterday, two members of Mazafar gang had come to kill one Sunil Patra of Titu gang.
After knowing this, members of Titu gang attacked the two, kidnapped them and demanded a ransom from their family members for their release.
Barbil IIC Jagannath Mallick informed that two police complaints in this regard was reported yesterday, following which a special team was formed to nab the accused.
During interrogation, arrested Muzaffar have admitted of taking a contract of Rs 10 lakh for eliminating Titu, sources in the police said.
Several cases including dacoity and murder have been pending against the nine arrested at various police stations, the IIC added.
