Coop bank assistant manager caught taking bribe
Sambalpur: Vigilance sleuths on Monday arrested an assistant manager-cum-supervisor of the central cooperative bank in Hemgir branch of Sundargarh district for allegedly taking Rs 7,000 bribe from a person.
The accused, Tapan Pradhan (49) of Lipospali under Hemgir police limits, had demanded the illegal gratification from Shraban Kumar Gardia of Kund village Sundargarh, who works as MD of Gopalpur LAMPS in Sundargarh.
According to sources, one SHG (self-help group) named Sonali SHG and one JLG (joint liability group) named Shree Laxmi JLG had applied for loans from Sundargarh District Central Cooperative Bank through Gopalpur LAMPS. The documentation of the loans was to be done by the accused which were pending with him for the last three months.
The accused had demanded Rs 7,000 from Gardia to complete the documentation process and put up before the branch manager with favorable reports for forwarding it to the head office for necessary sanction.
Subsequently, Gardia lodged a complaint with the Sundargarh vigilance division following which a trap was laid to nab the accused. As per the plan, the complainant reached Sundargarh District Central Cooperative Bank and handed over the cash to the accused. A witness accompanying the complainant saw the transaction and overheard the conversation.
The vigilance officials reached the office and caught the accused red-handed while receiving the bribe money. The cash was recovered and a case under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 was registered.
Later, searches were conducted at the residential house of the accused located at Gandhinagar of Belpahar. The accused was arrested and will be produced before the court of special vigilance judge.
